  • Objectives

The objective of the ME course is to first address the foundations of economic analysis - microeconomics and macroeconomics. Then, several courses - Public Economics, Market Structure and Competitive Dynamics, Economics of Risk and Insurance, Decision Theory,... - allow to widen the field of knowledge and to present the concepts and developments necessary to offer students the opportunity to build a real set of skills in the fields of finance (corporate and market), risk management (industrial, health and natural risks), business strategies.

Mathematics and computer science courses are organised to meet the needs of economists in terms of modelling and problem solving. The Applied Econometrics workshop is a good example of the transition from economics to statistical treatment of various issues such as impact assessments of public policies, or environmental protection in relation to economic activity.

  • Practical information

    Teaching methods :

A large place is given to tutorials since about 90% of the lessons have an equidistribution between lessons and tutorials. A strong point of the training is the presence of projects and internships related to the skills listed above (about 20% of the work evaluated). 60% of the courses are on digital work supports (AMETICE). Approximately 15% of the courses will be offered in "reverse pedagogy". From the third year onwards, several courses in economics/management will be taught in English.

This course is based on different research teams of Aix Marseille-University :

    • AMSE (Aix-Marseille School of Economics) UMR CNRS 7316
    • I2M (Institut de Mathématiques de Marseille) UMR CNRS 7373
    • The LIS (Laboratory of Computer Science and Systems) UMR CNRS 7020
    • The CRCM (Cancer Research Centre), UMR INSERM 1068 (SMARTc)

More specifically, the link with research is made through internships in laboratories, or through the methodology of certain exercises: the carrying out of surveys, polls, experiments, the design and operation of databases, the writing of a dissertation under the direction of a teacher-researcher in connection with the themes of the laboratories concerned.

A professional and selective orientation is organized during the third year of the ME course, in connection with the "Economic Engineer" Master's degree of the AMSE. It takes the form of additional modules associated with option 1 "Economics and Management" and gives the right to the following advantages: access to the Big Data programme of the Magistère, mainly provided by professionals, access to the offers and professional meetings of the AMSE programme, the possibility of automatically entering the 2nd year Magistère and M1 AMSE at the end of the MIASHS licence and the possibility of going abroad, during the first semester of this second year.

To access this professional orientation, you must submit your application at the end of the 2nd year, and then be selected on the basis of your application by a jury composed of those in charge of the Magistère and the MIASHS Licence. An additional pedagogical contribution of 180 euros will then be requested in return for the acquisition of the "Big Data" module.
