FAQ
I am an international student. Which application procedure should I follow?
The procedure depends on whether you currently live in France:
- If you are a non-EU student already living in France (for example, with a residence permit), you should apply through the "DAP verte" (green preliminary admission application), submitted directly to the university. : https://www.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/fr/dossier-vert-demande-d-admission-prealable-dap-pour-une-premiere-inscription-en-premiere-annee-de-46347
- If you live outside France in a country covered by the "Études en France" procedure (such as Brazil), you should apply through the Études en France platform managed by Campus France in your country.
- If you live outside France in a country not covered by "Études en France", you should apply through the "DAP blanche" (white preliminary admission application), submitted to the French embassy in your country of residence. : https://www.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/fr/dossier-blanc-demande-d-admission-prealable-dap-pour-une-premiere-inscription-dans-une-universite-46452
Please note that EU/EEA nationals apply through Parcoursup, like French applicants.
Each procedure has its own deadlines, usually several months before the start of the academic year, so we strongly recommend checking them early.
Are certified translations required for my diploma and transcripts, and are there any additional documents I should prepare now?
- For applicants who obtained their secondary-school qualification abroad, transcripts must be provided in English. If your diploma and transcripts are issued in another language, you will need to provide certified translations into English, together with copies of the original documents. Official documents issued directly in English by your school are also accepted.
- The exact list of required documents depends on the application procedure that applies to you (Parcoursup, Études en France or DAP), so please also check the requirements of the relevant platform.
What qualifications do I need to be admitted to the first year (L1)?
To be admitted to L1, you must hold, by the start of the programme, a qualification that gives access to higher education. This can be the French baccalauréat or a foreign qualification considered equivalent, such as a recognised secondary-school completion diploma from your country, or a set of A Levels considered equivalent to the baccalauréat.
You may apply before obtaining your final diploma: any offer of admission will then be conditional on successfully completing it before enrolment. The final decision on equivalence rests with the admissions committee.
How do I apply? Should I use Parcoursup or Études en France?
The application procedure depends on your nationality and your country of residence, not only on your qualifications.
- Parcoursup is the national platform for first-year admission in France. It is used, among others, by French and EU/EEA applicants, as well as by applicants who hold or are preparing the French baccalauréat.
- Études en France (Campus France) is generally used by non-EU applicants who live in one of the countries covered by this procedure, such as Brazil.
Application deadlines differ from one procedure to the other and usually fall several months before the start of the academic year, so we recommend checking them early on the relevant website (parcoursup.fr or the Campus France website for your country).
