  • Objectives

    The Magistère in Economics, Data Science and Finance (formerly known as Magistère Ingénieur Économiste) is a high-level training program in quantitative methods, economic analysis, statistics and data science techniques. At the end of the program, students obtain three diplomas: Licence, Master and Diplôme d'Études Supérieures Universitaires du Magistère in Economics, Data Science and Finance.

    This program offers high-level training enabling graduates to take up positions of responsibility in SMEs and large corporations, financial institutions and national and international public bodies.

    Structure and organization

    The first year of the Magistère in Economics, Data Science and Finance is attached to two bachelor's degrees from the Faculty of Economics and Management:

    • the L3 in Economics-Finance (EF) course of the Economic and management bachelor's degree taught in Marseille,
    • the L3 Mathematics Economics (ME) course of the Mathematics and Computer Science Applied to Human and Social Sciences bachelor's degree taught in Aix-en-Provence.

    Students follow the first year of the Magistère in one or other of these two cities, depending on the bachelor's degree they have chosen.

    the second and third years are linked to three master's programs:

    • Master Econometrics Statistics,
    • Master Economics,
    • Master Finance.

  • Admission

    Who can apply?

    The target audience for the Magistère is students with a Bac+2 in Economics and Management, Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences or a preparatory class with quantitative skills. Entrance to the Magistère is selective, based on the student's application file, after completing a Licence 2 or a CPGE. Applicants may be called for an interview.

  • International mobility

    A semester of international study is an integral part of the program (examples of destinations: United Kingdom, Italy, Hungary, Portugal, United States, Finland, Canada, Norway, Spain, South Korea, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Australia, etc.).
    Students can also spend their second year (M1) abroad as part of a double master's degree program, depending on the field of study chosen.
    Courses taken abroad are validated by equivalence.
    In-depth English language training is an important part of the first-year curriculum, in preparation for mobility.

  • Practical information

    Internships are an integral part of the training program and count towards the final grade for the diploma, with 3 compulsory internships in 3 years.
    Students undertake two applied econometrics projects.
    In the final year, they work on a final year project (PFE) in data-science, which is an essential complement to their practical training. This is an operational project, supervised by a university lecturer and a professional tutor. Students work on the project in groups (3 to 4 students) over a period of 5 to 6 months (October to March). PFEs are the subject of a written report and a presentation in the presence of the company. They are often a springboard for internships, then jobs.

  • What next?

    Students who wish to do so can apply for the AMSE doctoral program. They will then pursue an Economics thesis within the Doctoral School of Economics and Management at Aix-Marseille University.
