Stéphane Benveniste is joint winner of the AFSE (Association Française de Science Economique) thesis prize with Antoine Ferey. He defended his thesis in 2021, entitled "Les Grandes Écoles au 20ème siècle, le champ des élites françaises: reproduction sociale, dynasties, réseaux" under the direction of Alain Trannoy (EHESS/AMSE).
