M2 Economics of Law - Business Law and Economics course (BLE)

Accessible after the M1 Economics of Law or with a compatible M1, the M2 BLE offers a double Aixois or Erasmus Mundus course for students wishing to deepen their economic analysis of law and institutions. The Aixois program takes place in Aix en Provence and is entirely in English. In the second semester, it welcomes Erasmus students from the ten universities participating in the programme. Erasmus Mundus students attend 3 different universities during the year. The objective is to train professionals open to the world and capable of applying economic analysis. The ability to communicate in English on technical issues both orally and in writing is a key element of the training. Students for a motivated minority may pursue a PhD, while others are directly involved in professional life. There is no standard career path, former students (the course has been in existence since 1977) occupy a variety of positions in management in companies, higher and secondary education, in expert positions with international institutions or Think Tanks. Some are company directors.

Teaching is exclusively in English (exams in English or French, according to the student's choice).

The graduate will have acquired the following skills:

• Master the concepts, methods and tools of economic analysis.
• Understands the mechanisms of institutional evolution and in particular the legal rules
• Is prepared for the international opening of research professions (teaching is entirely in English, student recruitment is international and diversified).
• Understands the complexity of the institutions in order to be able to anticipate the necessary adjustments.
• Synthesizes literature on one or more areas of the social sciences in order to be able to identify avenues for further research.
• Conceives and develops models using mathematical formalisation, and more generally, articulates arguments clearly
• Mastery of research techniques (use of digital databases and other more traditional sources of information)
• Communicates the fruit of his research in a clear and constructive way in French and English (oral, written).

Who can apply?

For access to M2, the student must have an M1 level of study or, if foreign, its equivalent. He/she must demonstrate, in particular through his/her academic and university background, capacities and motivation for economic analysis applied to the understanding of social and in particular institutional dynamics. He must be able to follow courses in English.

An initial training in economics is recommended, but candidates from other disciplines (in particular law, but also management) can be accepted if the motivation is sincere. For entry into M2, it is recommended that candidates provide tangible proof of the ability to follow courses in English (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge, TOEIC, study abroad).

How do I apply?

Apply at the time of admission on the dedicated platform.

An important place is given to the dissertation, supervised by one of the lecturers in the Master's programme. The dissertation must demonstrate an ability to synthesize a literature and analyze a regulation, an institution, a social dynamic... The choice of field is left to the student who can thus deepen a field towards which he or she thinks he or she is moving. Research seminars allow the development of these capacities.

The program is associated with the AMSE (Aix-Marseille School of Economics), the Institute of Business Law, and the Center of Economic Law.
